At our event, ‘Pride in Place networking: Building a Movement for Neighbourhoods’, 3ni brought together councils from across the country with one aim: to understand the real change that Pride in Place can have for communities when residents are in the lead.
The discussion brought people together around a shared recognition that Pride in Place demands a different kind of local leadership, one rooted in trust, broad early engagement and a willingness to share power with residents. Councils reflected openly on the tensions they face, from funding boundaries to forming neighbourhood boards, while hearing clear evidence from Big Local and Ambition Lawrence Weston that long‑term, community‑led approaches deliver deeper and more sustainable change. Across the room there was a strong sense that regeneration must start with people and relationships, not projects, and that councils have a pivotal role in enabling communities to lead, removing barriers, and supporting the slow, steady work that builds confidence and lasting impact.
