3ni member event explores how to tap in the power of neighbourhoods

Published on 3 September 2025

Earlier this summer, we hosted a 3ni members’ event with local authority officers to discuss how to unleash the power of our neighbourhoods.

It was an opportunity for local authority officers to take a deep dive into the government’s recent announcements and how learning from the Independent Commission on Neighbourhoods (ICON) can help shape a neighbourhood moment.

At the event, we were pleased to have two team members from ICON. Andrew O’Brien, Head of Secretariat, and Ben Glover, Head of Policy, gave presentations on their recent research in neighbourhoods and what policies might be effective to develop a clear focus nationally to work at a hyper-local level.

If you want to learn more about their presentations, you can check them out here:

Afterwards, local authority officers had the opportunity to discuss what they’d heard and how they were working at a neighbourhood level. It was a great discussion, touching on the importance of relational work and building trust in communities, while also acknowledging the issues around the rigidity of funding streams and community and local government capacity.

We hope to see you at our next event!
